The Bands — Dreamcoat, Class of Rags, No Conflict, Energia, Leben, Crash ’29

Throughout the late ’80s and early ’90s, Tony Evola cofounded and performed in a constellation of bands that shaped the Middle Tennessee underground. These projects formed the backbone of his early musical identity — each one distinct, each one contributing a different facet to the emerging songwriter. Dreamcoat - Alternative, atmospheric, melodic. Tony served as guitarist, songwriter, arranger, and cofounder. Class of Rags - Rock, punk, alternative — raw energy and emotional urgency. Tony was guitarist, songwriter, arranger, and co-founder. No Conflict - Straightforward rock with emotional grit. Tony again shaped the band’s sound as guitarist, songwriter, arranger, and cofounder. Key collaborator: Eli DeCanto, bass player and songwriter. Energia — Latin/Pop Fire in the Early ’90s. Energia was a vibrant Latin/pop band operating in the early 1990s, blending Miami style rhythms with Nashville musicianship. Tony performed as guitar player and trumpet player, adding melodic brass lines and rhythmic guitar textures that helped define the group’s sound. Energia expanded Tony’s musical vocabulary, introducing Latin rhythms, pop structures, and horn driven arrangements that later influenced his analog studio work. Leben — Christian Rock / Alternative - Leben was a Christian rock/alternative band co- founded by Tony in the early 1990s. Tony served as guitar player, songwriter, and cofounder, shaping the band’s melodic and lyrical direction. Leben’s catalog blended spiritual themes with alternative rock textures, marking an important chapter in Tony’s evolution as a songwriter capable of emotional and thematic range. Crash ’29 — Jazz Duo of the Early 1990s. Crash ’29 was a jazz duo performing early 20th century standards arranged for piano and trumpet. Tony performed as trumpet player, bringing warm, expressive brass lines to classic jazz repertoire.
